Trade-in & Consignment Policy*

All diamond center stones purchased from Nice Ice, Inc. d.b.a. NiceIce.com may be used in the form of a trade-in value towards the purchase of another diamond or jewelry item for the original wire transfer / cash discount purchase price of the diamond less the cost of shipping and a 10% (ten percent) restocking fee subject to verification of the characteristics of the diamond by the independent gemological laboratory that originally graded the diamond.  Credit card fees are non-refundable because they were paid to the bank at the time your transaction occurred and are non-recoverable, thus they will be deducted from the trade-in value at the current rate of 3.5% because they are an expense which we can not recover.

Note that the trade-in value for the diamond will not be established or taken into account until the diamond has been sent to the diamond grading laboratory and the original grade and condition of the diamond has been verified by the diamond grading laboratory that originally graded the diamond.  Why?  Because the condition and subsequent grade of the diamond is subject to change depending on what happened to the diamond while it was in your care.  Take this diamond for instance:

[NiceIce/photogallery/photo00024272/real.htm]

We originally sold this 1.04 carat, D color, VS-1 in 2005 as a zero ideal cut with GIA Excellent polish and symmetry.  The original GIA lab report located on the left indicates that the primary inclusions responsible for the clarity grade was a few small diamond crystals and needle shaped diamond crystals as indicated under the plotting diagram located on the lab report.  Our policy for diamonds which are traded-in to us or sent to us for consignment is not to represent them until they have been sent back to the laboratory for confirmation of the grade and a lab quality assessment of the current condition.  When this diamond was sent to us for consignment, there were a few new inclusions as indicated on the new GIA lab report pictured to the right.  The new inclusions are a small feather and a small chip.  The small chip is located on the culet (bottom point) and effects the symmetry grade of the diamond which drops it from GIA Excellent to Very Good.  The decrease in the quality of the diamond has a direct effect on the value of the diamond and our ability to resell it, thus there will be a depreciation in the value of the diamond.

Most of the time, the grade of a diamond does not change, but occasionally a diamond is damaged due to wear and that is the reason for the structure of our trade-in policy.  Please anticipate a delay of four to six weeks when trading in your GIA Graded diamond and two weeks when trading in an AGS graded diamond in for another in our inventory and plan accordingly.  The specified time period is based upon the average time that each laboratory seems to take to complete their grading process and their usual waiting period.  Exceptions will not be made regarding the timing and verification requirements of this policy.  You may elect to purchase the new diamond out right and to receive a company check for the trade-in upon verification of the condition of the stone if you are pressed for time, but be aware that the actual trade-in value of the diamond can not be confirmed until the diamond is back from being graded.  Actual trade-in value will be based upon the characteristics of the diamond at the time of trade-in and not the original sales value if the quality of the diamond has changed, this includes changes to polish, symmetry, proportions ratings and/or visual performance ratings as determined by the laboratory.  If changes in the grade of the diamond have occured, it will be necessary to negotiate the trade-in value.  If the quality of the diamond has not changed, the trade-in value is based on the original wire transfer / cash discount price of the diamond, less a 10% restocking fee as outlined above.

If you have recently purchased the diamond or jewelry item from us and it is still within the designated inspection period then this policy is not applicable, please return the item to us for a refund under the terms and conditions of our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.

What is the 10% restocking fee used for?

  • It allows us to discount the diamond for being "used" and unlike most dealers, we do represent "used" diamonds as "used" and clearly indicate them as such on our inventory list.

  • The expense of sending the diamond to the diamond grading laboratory to have it re-graded.

  • Marketing costs and profit... Yes, it's true, we don't work for free and don't expect that you do either.

We will accept trade-in of one diamond towards the purchase of one diamond, two stones towards the purchase of two stones, etc.  You may not trade-in your entire jewelry collection towards the purchase of any one item. Be fair with us and we'll be fair with you.  Everything in life is a matter of balance.

Jewelry items such as engagement rings, wedding sets, wedding bands, fashion rings, bracelets, necklaces, etc. purchased from our company may be traded in for "melt credit" or "scrap" but will not be accepted for trade-in value as a percentage of their original purchase price towards another jewelry item because we do not sell used jewelry and will be sending the item off to a refinery once a suitable amount of scrap has been accumulated.  Be forewarned that the value of a finished jewelry item is substantially higher than the scrap value of the item.

Consignment Policy*

In the event that you purchase a diamond from us and later decide that you would like to sell it for whatever reason, we will try to sell the diamond for you as a consignment for a fee of 15% of the pre-determined selling price of the stone plus expenses such as updating of the lab report and any repair that the diamond may require to be sold by our company.  Please note that we can not guarantee that your consignment will sell or how long it might take to sell because we don't have a crystal ball.  At our sole discretion, we may be willing to purchase the diamond or jewelry item out right for 25% less than you originally paid for it.

What about diamonds not purchased from us?  In an effort to maintain the integrity of our inventory (read we do not deal in conflict diamonds) we do not represent diamonds purchased from other companies because very few diamonds pass our evaluation process as it is and we are unable to determine the lineage of the diamond in terms of where it was sourced from and produced by.  Please understand that this policy is truly for the protection of our clients and is maintained in an effort to guarantee that we are not trading in conflict goods.

* Terms & Conditions:

  • Original sales receipt required.

  • Original diamond grading report required.

  • Diamond must not be damaged or show signs of wear.  If the diamond or jewelry item requires repair and or repolishing the expense for doing so will be deducted from the trade-in or consignment value.

  • All Exceptions & Restrictions stated in our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee Policy shall apply to any item being submitted for trade-in.

  • Purchases made prior to May 01, 2006 from Treasures by R.J. are not necessarily covered by the new trade-in and consignment policy of Nice Ice, Inc. which is owned and operated by a separate entity.  All contractual obligations of Treasures by R.J., a sole proprietorship, became null and void upon the passing of it's owner in 2005.  NiceIce.com is operated under the guidance of Nice Ice, Inc. a sole and separate entity.  If you have a diamond that was purchased from Treasures by R.J., please contact us if you would like it considered for trade-in purposes.  Thank you.
